Please join us for this rare opportunity to receive guidance, insight and wisdom on creating a living, breathing, and harmonious community through this course given by Shama Viola of Damanhur, Italy. Shama draws from her years of experience as a fully participating member in the award-winning eco-community of Damanhur. Chosen to receive the 2005 Award for Sustainable Communities by the Global Human Settlements Forum of the United Nations, Damanhur is an internationally recognized center for artistic, ecological, spiritual and social research. As a federation of 20 plus small eco-villages founded more than 40 years ago, Damanhur has developed a smoothly functioning system of commerce, an infrastructure run on renewable energies, and an ecological building practice, all of which make it sustainable and exemplary. Damanhurians dedicate great attention to education, the arts, secular spirituality, and an openness and service toward the wider global community, which makes Damanhur an important step toward the creation of a new social, economic, human and cultural equilibrium.
In this course, Shama offers insights into the basic elements that constitute a human group. She aids groups in discovery, solidification and realization of their values and goals through the practice of community building and maintenance. Addressing such topics as leadership and the distribution of responsibilities, the need for constant renewal without distorting community integrity, evolution of the individual within the community, integration of new community members and supporting members of the community who leave, are amongst the several course themes. The underlying aim of this important course is to help create resilient communities functioning harmoniously within society at large.
